About the role:

This is a 24 month, replacement role with unaccompanied terms based in West Darfur, Sudan, on a salary of Grade 4, €39,219 to €43,577.

 

Your purpose:

You will give agriculture and Livelihoods Advisor support Concern Sudan’s programmes in West Darfur, focusing on programme strategy, quality and learning. You will work closely with colleagues in Concern, reporting to the Senior Programme Advisor. You will liaise with field teams and other Members of the Programme Support Unit. We would like you to start as soon as possible.

 

You will be responsible for:

Program implementation:

  • Lead the ongoing development of Concern Sudan’s Livelihoods programme including the design of strategy for Sudan in general and West Darfur in particular, working in conjunction with the wider resilience programme and relevant sectors, such as health, nutrition and WASH.
  • Participate and contribute to Livelihoods programme proposal development
  • Provide robust support to the National Livelihoods Advisor in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Concern Livelihoods programme, and in support of partner organizations.
  • Strengthen, and where necessary design and roll out continuous improvements in programme quality, including strategy and implementation for transition from humanitarian action to resilience and longer term development interventions.
  • Provide technical support to the Livelihoods programme team on an ongoing basis with regular visits to the projects sites to address progress and assist field staff as required.
  • Lead in conducting Livelihoods sector baselines and assessments, including market surveys, value chain studies and stakeholders’ analysis.
  • Provide support and guidance on budget development and monitoring of expenditure to budget holders with reference to livelihood budgets
  • Support Concern’s South Kordofan Livelihoods programme, as workload allows.

Capacity Building & Support:

  • Design a comprehensive capacity building strategy for Livelihoods staff and partners engaged in Livelihoods related activities.
  • Facilitate and coordinate trainings for CWW Livelihoods and partners’ staff as well as other members of the Programme Support Unit.
  • Facilitate trainings for Concern and partners’ Livelihoods staff and mentor the National Livelihoods Advisor.
  • Provide advice and support for the development of project management skills to programme staff related to livelihoods work.
  • Support the National Livelihoods Advisor to prepare regular project progress reports as required for donors and other internal and external bodies, ensuring technical quality.

Other:

  • Ensure consistency of strategy & common objectives between programmes, partners and donors.
  • Liaise and coordinate with other relevant stakeholders in interagency planning and implementing livelihood development interventions including attendance of all relevant coordination meetings, as directed by the West Darfur Programme Director and /or the Country Director.
  • Ensure that HIV & AIDS, equality and disaster risk reduction (DRR) are factored into programme design and delivery, reviews and evaluations
  • Play an active role in the Programme Support Unit, contributing to the overall programme strategy.
  • To participate in any emergency response carried out by Concern country programme as directed by the line manager

 

Your skills and experience will include:

Essential

  • Relevant third level qualification– preferably with strong emphasis on Livelihoods issues (e.g. Farm and Off Farm income generation activities, micro-finance, agricultural development).
  • At least 4 years progressive experience in livelihoods projects including management, reporting and proposal writing.
  • Previous overseas experience of food and livelihood programs in post-conflict situations.
  • Knowledge of participatory methods and data collection methodologies.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Experience in analysis of livelihoods data.
  • IT skills including word, excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience in working with and capacity building of national staff and partner organisations.
  • Good understanding of climate change adaptation and resilience approaches.
  • Familiarity with principles of humanitarian action (international code of conduct and humanitarian charter).
  • Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Empathy with organizational goals.

Desirable:

  • Experience in digital data gathering.
  • Understanding of some key institutional donor requirements.
  • Familiarity with SPHERE guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standard (or Humanitarian Accountability Partnership), and its quality criteria.
  • Knowledge of Arabic.
