Job Role Responsibilities :

  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise in support of the design, construction, commissioning, start-up and operation of the ExxonMobil Huizhou Chemical Manufacturing Complex ;
  • The work includes engineering assessment, engineering design, trouble-shooting and root cause failure analysis and long-term equipment improvement initiatives ;
  • Provide asset support for static (fixed) mechanical equipment including: storage tanks and spheres, pressure vessels, piping and valve systems, heat exchanger mechanical design, fluid solids equipment, and refractory ;
  • Monitor and drive improvements for the static equipment assets within the Complex ;
  • Initiate and support changes in technology or work practices to improve plant reliability and profitability, and
  • Support reliability initiatives and programs including resolution of bad actors, management of equipment strategies, participation in (or lead) incident investigations and risk assessments, and advising on risk based work selection ;
  • Provide expertise to Maintenance and Operations teams and collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines (inspection, machinery, instrumentation, reliability, etc.) in support of plant operations and improvements ;
  • Provide engineering support for modifications to existing static equipment and new installations, including reviewing and approving changes, developing engineering specifications/requirements, conducting or participating in design reviews, and supporting testing and commissioning.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Support during unit/equipment turnaround and start-up ;
  • Support development of equipment strategies, understanding the impact of equipment sparing, redundancy, reliability, availability, maintainability, and maintenance cost in support of operations excellence and capital efficiency ;
  • Participate in activities related to safety and risk assessment and in safety incident investigations related to static equipment, and
  • Support capital projects by developing project design specifications for static equipment scope, providing surveillance on contractor and vendor designs and deliverables, provide advice and assist in testing, commissioning and start-up ;
  • Primary contributions will be at the individual contributor level with close interfaces within the immediate work group and interfaces with other disciplines related to engineering and maintenance.

 

Required Skills and Knowledge :

  • Bachelor Degree or above in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university ;
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience which related to petrochemical or refining industry ;
  • Demonstrated skills in the area of equipment selection for new / existing applications,and skills related to continuous improvement and optimization of static equipment assets through analysis of equipment performance ;
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting equipment issues, proven skills needed to efficiently identify and resolve start up and operational problems ;
  • Familiarity with static equipment from a wide variety of industry vendors/suppliers, and familiarity with Industry standards, Country-specific regulations (CSR), and local codes ;
  • Skilled in the design and operation of atmospheric and pressurized storage tanks and spheres, including understanding of different types and key design parameters, tank components and requirements (e.g., product level and temperature measurement devices, gauges, vents), design and maintenance codes and requirements (e.g., API 650/653, tank sizing criteria, and tank farm layout/tank spacing criteria), tank safety and environmental criteria and requirements (e.g., N2 blanketing, leak detection, addressing static electricity concerns, firefighting, etc.) and ability to interprets in-service and out-of-service API 653 inspection reports to develop maintenance scopes of work ;
  • Skilled in the design and fitness for service (FFS) assessment of static equipment using advanced analysis techniques, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluated common defects, implications of piping surge analysis and tube rupture analysis, principles of FFS methods documented in recognized industry standards (e.g., API 579), and understands ASME B31.3 and ASME Section 8 Divisions 1 and 2 ;
  • Skilled in the area of vibration and noise design and issue mitigation, including troubleshooting and ability to identify sources of vibrations in piping systems, interpret vibration analysis reports, perform cyclic fatigue analyses, apply methods to determine the natural frequency of a pipe system, vessel internal or other fixed equipment, recommend methods to mitigate beam and shell mode vibration issues, understand acoustic induced vibration (AIV), mitigate the effects of noise encountered in existing and new facilities, and apply evaluation methods (e.g., Wachel & Bates, Carucci-Mueller) during vibration troubleshooting ;
  • Skilled in the design and troubleshooting of pipe systems along with isolation valves and related appurtenances and knowledgeable regarding piping isometrics, piping material specifications, piping support standards, piping components (pipe, tees, elbows, bends, reducers, flanges, gaskets, pipe supports, etc.) and valve types (ball, gate, globe, butterfly, plug, check, etc.) and familiar with key ASME piping standards (B16, 31, 36, etc.) ;
  • Skilled in the area of pressure vessel design and operation for common vessel types (separators, trayed towers, filter cases, fixed bed reactors), including impacts associated with transient flow conditions, evaluate versus applicable standards or codes, familiarity with materials and their properties, determine wall thickness, design pressure vessel nozzles and reinforcement ;
  • Skills related to welding engineering, welding NDE methods (e.g., ultrasonic testing, radiography, magnetic particle, dye penetrant), common welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, GTAW, etc.), and quality control methods for parameter monitoring, and visual inspection, and knowledgeable in common weld defects, causes, and their remedies ;
  • Familiarity with metallic materials selection for projects and field use including application of relevant specifications, standards and general practices.

 

Additional Requirement :

Knowledge, skills and experience in any of the following areas is an advantage :

  • Experience with the design, construction, commissioning and start-up of a large-scale capital project ;
  • Skilled in the area of mechanical design of heat exchangers, understands basic TEMA designations for the major classes of shell and tube heat exchangers, interprets datasheets to determine the pressure rating and TEMA designation of a heat exchanger, understands applicable codes and standards pertaining to heat exchangers and key indicators used to monitor the performance (e.g., temperatures, fouling factors, pressure drop) ;
  • Skilled in the design, maint. and troubleshooting of Fluid Solids Equipment and Refractory equipment ;
  • Experience in global projects, MOC, WOFE or JV is an advantage ;
  • Effective team player ;
  • Fluent in speaking and writing English ;
  • Willingness for 1-2 year’s short-term relocation, if required.
