Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context :

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator at the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in Cairo, Egypt, in collaboration with the Regional Media and Public Information Officer, and in close coordination with the EUTF Coordination Cell in the Regional Office in Brussels, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing communications activities within the overall communications strategy under the EU-IOM Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in North Africa (EUTF North Africa), funded by the EU and aimed at strengthening migrant protection and sustainable reintegration systems in North Africa.

Core Functions / Responsibilities :

  1. Coordinate, organize and implement specifically defined EUTF North Africa communication activities, including external outreach ;
  2. Gather, prepare and upon approval disseminate public information on IOM activities in the region under EUTF North Africa, both in writing and verbally ;
  3. Draft, edit and produce communication materials related to EUTF North Africa for IOM’s bi-weekly press briefing notes, website and social media as well as for the Regional Office’s outlets as requested ;
  4. Provide the Regional Director, Chiefs of Mission, and the Regional Media and Public Information Officer with information on media requirements, awareness-raising procedures and techniques, and visibility needs in relation to EUTF North Africa ;
  5. In close coordination with the Programme Coordinator, the Regional Media and Public Information Officer and the EUTF Coordination Cell in the Regional Office in Brussels, draft talking points as requested by colleagues in the region and HQs for on-going media requests and interview opportunities ;
  6. Undertake TDYs to country missions/offices to assist in gathering material for multi-media and public information material ;
  7. Produce content in the form of human interest stories from the field ;
  8. Draft press releases and Op-eds a Desirable Competencies :

Other :

  • Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile ;
