Context :

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the technical coordination of the Staff Welfare Officer in Geneva and close coordination with relevant units in South Sudan, the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of the Staff welfare activities in IOM South Sudan.

Core Functions / Responsibilities :

  1. Draft and implement an annual work plan, with agreement from supervisors, that includes the responsibilities listed below ;
  2. Provide confidential counselling and psychological support to staff post-critical incident or other emergency and facilitate access to individual counselling services either internally or externally ;
  3. Participate and, when required, coordinate responses to critical incidents and emergencies ;
  4. Provide psychological preparation and orientation for staff, end of assignment debriefing and implementation of the Peer Support Network and Staff Support framework in high-risk environments ;
  5. Provide training on relevant topics including stress management, emotional processing, dealing with critical incidents, well-being ;
  6. Participate in evaluations of the services offered including preventative initiatives ;
  7. Produce psycho-educational material to enhance mental health and wellbeing of staff ;
  8. Bring to the attention of the supervisors any staff who are in crisis ;
  9. Facilitate medical evacuation of staff as approved by OHU, HIM Manila/Panama and ensure proper documentation of the case ;
  10. Maintain regular contact with the counselling resources in the country ;
  11. Maintain records and produce reports as required ;
  12. Participate in the initiatives aimed at further development of the staff welfare approach in IOM South Sudan ;
  13. Perform such other duties as may assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience :

Education :

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience ; or
  • University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience ;
  • Must be licensed or registered clinical psychologist, counsellor or social worker or equivalent in their Country of origin or training.

Experience :

  • Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of mental health is required ;
  • Experience with other UN Agencies, International Humanitarian Organizations or Employee Assistant Programs considered essential ;
  • Experience of working in hardship duty station or providing counselling services to staff working in very difficult and hazardous environments desired.

Languages :

  • IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish ;
  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
