The Role :

The Global Humanitarian Team (GHT) is looking for a Protection Humanitarian Support Personnel (HSP) to support the integration of protection of the environment. The main purpose of this flexible resource is to ensure that protection is achieved in an international community, and to ensure that it is safe and effective.

To foster an appropriate working culture built on Oxfam’s values, respectful and cognizant of power imbalances internally and between Oxfam, our partners and the communities we serve.

Core details :

Location : Roving role deployable to Oxfam Programs worldwide. HSPs work away from homebase (apart from annual leave days). Deployments to a particular location in a few months.

Home-based when not deployed.

Our Package : £ 27,963 – £ 37,095 net per annum. ( Net = take home pay.) Oxfam will meet the tax and social security liabilities of post-holder in net salary)

Annual Budget for the post : None

Essential :

  • Oxfam’s values, mission and work ;
  • Knowledge and understanding of global justice, social change, women’s rights and gender equality ;
  • Extensive emergency response experience working in acute contexts (both conflict and natural disasters) including insecure environments ;
  • In humanitarian field programs ;
  • Enhanced and demonstrable collaboration and networking skills ;
  • Excellent understanding of gender in conflict and disasters including the ability to analyze gender issues in a key context ;
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of protection including international standards (eg International Humanitarian Law) ;
  • Demonstrable project management skills and experience ;
  • Proven capacity for mentoring, facilitation, training, capacity building and coaching ;
  • Ability to build positive team dynamics, and motivate and manage a team ;
  • A proven ability to work in different teams in different cultural contexts ;
  • Ability to negotiate and influence internal and external audiences ;
  • An ability for creative problem solving and innovation in complex and / or restrictive working environments ;
  • An ability to work independently, to be more competitive ;
  • Excellent written and spoken English and French.

Desirable :

  • Understanding of Oxfam’s approach to protection ;
  • Experience working in unstable and insecure situations ;
  • Expertise in conflict sensitivity, disaster risk-reduction, policy research and / or international advocacy an advantage ;
  • An advantage if the candidate is able to communicate fluently in Spanish or Arabic.
