The Opportunity

This is an exciting time for Plan International as we embark on a new strategy for. To achieve greater change in children’s lives we will dramatically transform how we operate and we need bold, forward-thinking and innovative individuals to steer our country operations, driving change and delivering results that will allow us to transform the lives of 100 million girls globally. 

Plan International has a presence of over 40 years in the Mali and Burkina Faso, and over 30 years in Niger, with many of our partner communities affected by these conflicts and protracted insecurity. In addition to its development programs, Plan International has been responding to the emergencies in the three countries, with a focus on education, protection against abuse including Gender-based violence, and provision of Non-food items including dignity kits.

Given the recent escalation of security concerns, the quickly deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger , the proximity, socio-cultural similarities, inter-relation of the situation in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger and the fact that we have been doing major development programs in the three countries who many decades now, Plan International has decided, in addition to the on-going response programs by each Country Office, to put in place a team charged with implementing a multi-country Sahel Program across Burkina Faso, Mali and the part of Niger that is not included in the Lake Chad program.

 

Do you have what it takes?

The role of Sahel Emergency Response Programme Manager is a truly influential position that will help shape, steer and grow Plan Internationals Programme portfolio across Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. Your talents as a leader and communicator will inspire Plan International employees and volunteers while engaging partners, government, local communities and our other stakeholders. And, on an operational level, you will bring a focused approach to key responsibilities such as risk management, income growth, the disbursement of project funds and the oversight of projects.

You will have strong people management skills, be adept at developing people, building relationships, and creating a strong sense of purpose and collaboration for all those around you.

You will bring genuine passion, determination, and fresh thinking to our work – with the aim of expanding both our reach and our impact, and making change work for millions of children, particularly girls.

Your deep understanding of child rights and gender in development and knowledge of the concepts of sustainable community development and of participatory approaches and practice in development interventions will be essential. Experience of working in West Africa would be very beneficial for this position. To be successful in this role you will also require solid programme management experience and significant exposure to business development.
