The Organisation :

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years, and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity :

Plan International is undergoing an exciting transformation phase to support the implementation of our new global strategy, 100 Million Reasons to take action together so that 100 million girls learn, lead, decide and thrive.  Our new strategy will guide everything we do until 2022 as we work towards our purpose. Putting this new strategy into practice will require significant changes across Plan International, as we work towards becoming a global thought leader on girls’ rights and this work is being coordinated by our Transformation Office.

The Data Privacy Manager will sit in our Governance & Executive Department at International Headquarters in Woking. The Governance and Executive department provides advice, support and representation on legal and regulatory issues, furthering the delivery of Plan International’s strategy, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements by Plan International, Inc. and its subsidiaries and advising on good governance and the effective management of legal, regulatory, strategic and operational risk throughout Plan International.

The Data Privacy Manager will support the organisation in embedding a data privacy culture with a particular focus on the privacy rights of beneficiaries, working with other departments in International Headquarters (and particularly with the Risk & Compliance Team, the Safeguarding Children and Young People Unit, the Communications Team, the Sponsorship Team, the Human Resources Team, the Information Technology Team), and with Plan International’s programme delivery and fundraising offices globally.

You will advise Plan International globally, on its data privacy obligations and engage with National Organisations (Plan International’s fundraising members, registered as charitable entities in their home jurisdictions) to address inter-entity personal data flows.

You will identify and champion a comprehensive, and best practice approach to data privacy to ensure that Plan International complies with all legal requirements in relation to the processing of personal data in a manner which supports its gender responsive rights-based approach to programme delivery.

Managing specific projects and activities in relation to data privacy compliance, working within multidisciplinary teams you will promote a culture of shared responsibility for data privacy compliance across the Plan International family of programme delivery and fundraising offices; actively supporting and promoting collaboration and team work.

The Individual :

With proven experience in a similar role, advising on data privacy issues and driving data privacy related culture change you will have a clear understanding of the Data Privacy risks faced by large organisations carrying out significant data processing activities globally.

Excellent senior stakeholder management, including the ability to provide clear advice and direction even when faced with competing demands and short deadlines will be imperative.

An independent self-starter, self motivated, efficient and highly organised, you will develop effective compliance systems and processes that are user-friendly and fit for purpose and work well across a matrix management structure.
