The objective of the DevOps Engineer role is to plan, design, implement, and operate software components running on cloud infrastructure as part of a continuous integration / continuous delivery DevOps team. This role will collaborate with DevOps developers and engineers, cloud engineers, testers, architects, analysts, product owners, and business SMEs to deliver technology solutions into production environments using automated toolsets and processes.

A critical part of this role is having a strong understanding of Virgin Australia’s IT landscape, identifying and estimating technology-based changes, and implementing those changes as a part of supporting the IT delivery of projects.

Furthermore, keeping up to date with industry trends and best practices is crucial to this role, as is an outstanding attention to detail as this team is Virgin Australia’s leading-edge DevOps team driving significant innovation into Virgin Australia’s development pipeline.

Please note that this role, as a DevOps role, requires rostered out-of-hours on-call support.

A people person You collaborate and engage with the internal and external stakeholders, understanding relationships are key.

What you’ll need :

Proficiency in implementing software in continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using the following tools and technologies :

  • Java ;
  • JEE, JMS, JTA, JPA ;
  • AWS ;
  • Shell Script ;
  • Javascript ;
  • Maven ;
  • Git
  • Unix ;
  • Computer science degree or similar with a high level of computer science content (e.g. major) ;
  • Detailed understanding of software architecture and design principles ;
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to sequence and prioritise tasks ;
  • Excellent client service ;
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills ;
  • Work autonomously with minimal supervision.
