Cadre organisationnel

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This post is located in UN Environment, Executive Office in Nairobi. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Executive Director, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

 

Responsabilités :

  • Develops, implements and evaluates assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions ;
  • Researches, analyzes and presents information gathered from diverse sources ;
  • Coordinates policy advice and recommendations to the Chief of Staff in the exercise of his/her functions and support in the overall management of the UN Environment Programme, including determining strategic priorities and allocating resources. Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions ;
  • Organizes and prepares written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc ;
  • Support corporate issues in liaison with relevant Divisions and Offices. Monitor ethics related issues including investigations. Act as Executive Office focal point on UN Environment reforms and its contribution to the wider UN reform, including monitoring the implementation of decisions/follow-up actions. Act as Executive Office focal point on change management and staff engagement, under the supervision of the Chief of Staff ;
  • Leads and/or participates in large, complex field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc ;
  • Coordinates activities related to the Executive Office, including overseeing administrative matters and ensuring the strategic prioritization of incoming and outgoing correspondence. Performs other duties as required.

Formation :

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environment science management, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Expérience professionnelle :

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, environment related field or related area With at least three years at the international level. Knowledge of UN Rules and Regulations is desirable. Experience in organizational performance monitoring and measurement is desirable.

 

Connaissances linguistiques :

Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension.
