Organizational context

This job is located in Addis Ababa office with significant travel to sub offices . Job holders report to the Administration Officer or the designate. They are expected to perform with minimum supervision and carry out specialized installation, maintenance and repair tasks requiring specific training and experience. They usually specialize in electrical wiring of buildings, installation of new electrical components and maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure and devices; or they may lead a team, and/or provide technical supervision and guidance to staff and external contractors on a range of site maintenance services. These jobs require a good physical fit to lift and handle heavy items and work in all types of weather conditions wearing protective clothing.

Job purpose

WFP Ethiopia Country Office  wishes to recruit a competent and experienced technician with carpentry, masonry and civil work background who will be responsible for premises and guest houses maintenance works. The incumbent will need to be willing to travel and manage all day-to-day activities related to ETCO premises and guest houses under the direct supervision of the Administration Officer with technical reporting lines to the Engineering unit.

Key accountabilities (not all-inclusive) :

  • Execute minor civil works such as bricks/blocks repair, cement and mortar preparation ;
  • Execute/repair works of plastering, painting and tiling ;
  • Repair minor damages of masonry structures, such as cracks, paint detachment and other minor civil works ;
  • Fix and maintain wooden structure for building (poles, truss, …) ;
  • Fix and maintain roof and ceiling structure (CIS, EGA, chip wood, …) ;
  • Fix and maintain wooden doors and windows (handle, lock, mosquito net, fiber-glass,) ;
  • Dismantle and reassemble prefabricated partition ;
  • Assemble and maintain furniture (bed, closet, desk, office’s chairs, shelves, …) ;
  • Fix and maintain sanitary accessories (towel stainless rail, toilet paper roll holder, soap holder, coat hook, dressing mirror, …) ;
  • Provide written requests for materials or tools and keep detailed report on storage and usage of these materials and tools ;
  • Report on a daily or weekly base to the Head of Unit / Section about the progress of the work ;
  • Alert the Head of Unit / Section of issues and/or damage that have been taken place, or are likely to occur ;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or the section head ;
  • Able and available to travel to the any field locations to provide the service to WFP guesthouses and offices.

Standard minimum qualifications :

Education : Completion of secondary school education. Demonstrated qualification in electricity. Completion of technical/vocational school or electrical certification is desirable.

Experience : Four or more years of progressively responsible and proven effective experience in planning and executing specialized electrical installations, maintenance and repair work, and at least one year at G3 level or equivalent.

Language : Fluency in both oral and written communication in Amharic. Knowledge in English will be a plus.
