Reporting Relations :
The Technical Advisor for Pediatric Care and Treatment will report to the Technical Director .
Job Summary :
The Technical Advisor Pediatric HIV care and treatment will be responsible for supporting the processes needed to transition to new, child-friendly ART formulations in Uganda. S/He will support the pediatric regimen optimization through ensuring accelerated uptake of quality LPV/r two-in-one and/or four-in-one formulations, and the strategic sequencing of and transition planning for the DTG 5mg originator or 10 mg generic dispersible formulations. S/He is responsible for providing the day-to-day technical oversight for the DNDi project in Uganda. He/ She will be working closely with a team of other Technical Advisors and Program Officers to support implementation of the project.
Core Duties and Responsibilities :
- S/He will provide technical leadership to the Uganda DNDi project and ensure technical soundness of the program ;
- S/He will participate in the development of DNDi work plans at the project level, district, CSOs and health facilities ;
- S/He will be responsible for the DNDi project management ;
- Provide technical assistance to MOH pediatric HIV care and treatment program ;
- Support MOH advocate for review and update ART guidelines to incorporate the new pediatric formulations ;
- Work closely with the NDA, National ART and pediatric HIV technical working groups to support the introduction and roll out of the new pediatric ART formulations ;
- Support the MOH in developing training materials, job aides and IEC materials for pediatric ART with a special focus on the new pediatric formulations ;
- Coordinate with other stakeholders and implementing partners to roll out the new pediatric formulations.
- Conduct a baseline analysis of the current barriers to rapid uptake of new pediatric ARV formulations and map out the key stakeholders ;
- Work with MOH to develop a strategy and national rollout plan for the new pediatric formulations in the country ;
- Provide technical assistance to MOH on the supply chain management for these new commodities across all levels ;
- Promote the documentation of best practices and lessons learned that can be shared at subnational, national and international fora ;
- Write high-level summary progress reports for stakeholder updates ;
- Perform other duties to support the program as assigned .
Required Qualifications and Job Experience :
- A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Degree and a Masters of Medicine (Pediatrics) ;
- At least 5 years of experience in provision of technical support for planning and implementing HIV/AIDS prevention, control and case management ;
- Experience working/collaborating with Ministries of Health and other Implementing Partners on the implementation of technically sound public health programmes, including HIV, prevention, care and treatment interventions ;
- Sound understanding of current issues and developments in the field of HIV/AIDS and especially PMTCT, ART and Pediatric care and treatment ;
- Prior experience coordinating and implementing HIV & AIDS quality improvement initiatives .
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
- Excellent training and mentorship/coaching skills and experience in coordinating large scale capacity building initiatives ;
- Knowledge in health care operations research ;
- Knowledge in work planning and report writing ;
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including the development of reports ;
- Ability to work and deliver results with minimal supervision .
