The Opportunity

The Child Protection Technical Advisor is expected to provide technical advice and support to project staff to ensure programming objectives are successfully achieved, with frequent visits to the field to support high quality programme implementation. S/he shall lead the development of the DRC country office strategy for child protection, much of which is focused on children in conflict and the reduction of SGBV, and drive its effective roll-out. S/he will work closely with the advocacy team to drive the Save the Children Centennial Commitment to Protection of Children in Conflict. The Child Protection Technical Advisor will represent Save the Children in national forums, such as the sub-cluster on Child Protection, and the Country Task Force.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Profil recherché :

In order to be successful you will have :

  • A child protection professional with a Masters Degree in child protection, law, social work or relevant field ;
  • Significant professional experience, at least 3 years of working at a senior level in child protection for international NGOs, UN or government ;
  • Excellent understanding of the child protection sector within the DRC context, and children in conflict particularly ;
  • Proven representation and advocacy skills ;
  • Strong commitment to capacity building of national staff and partners with willingness to adopt participatory and consultative approaches ;
  • Experience with child protection programming in humanitarian settings preferred ;
  • Experience writing donor funding proposals for large institutional grants in excess of US$1 million ;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching ;
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies ;
  • Fluency in English and French, both written and oral. Local languages an advantage.
