Description

We are looking for a committed and experienced individual to join us as Regional Food Security and Livelihoods Advisor for West and Central Africa, playing an exciting role in strengthening our Food Security and Livelihoods programmes through supporting our teams in Country Offices to design, implement and learn from high quality programmes. The role is based in Dakar, Senegal or London, UK, depending on candidates’ preference.

The successful candidate will be part of the Hunger Reduction and Livelihoods Team, which sits within the Programme Policy and Quality (PPQ) Department and is dedicated to delivering quality evidence based programme design and implementation support. The department is key to delivering Save the Children UK’s objective to deliver improvements in children’s lives and to demonstrate what works to achieve impact for children at scale.

As Regional FSL Advisor for West Africa you will work with colleagues across the Save the Children movement to support several  organisational learning and capacity building initiatives which aim to improve the quality of our livelihoods programming. You will also be expected to provide thought leadership in a key thematic area and will influence decision-makers both internally and externally. In addition you will :

  • Provide technical support to the design of FSL, Early Warning and Early Action and Youth Livelihoods programmes in the region, ensuring they are based upon high-quality needs assessments, are in line with Save the Children’s theory of change and contribute towards national policies and international best practice ;
  • Support fundraising efforts by contributing to the development of high quality concept notes and proposals, participate in donor meetings and ensuring that gender, resilience and child participation are mainstreamed into FSL and Youth Livelihoods programmes ;
  • Contribute to the implementation of the hunger reduction and livelihoods strategy through supporting its delivery, monitoring and review ;
  • Ensuring the integration of children with children in the early childhood and the future of early childhood care and child care. FSL, Early Warning and Early Intervention and Youth Livelihoods for Child Survival, Education and Protection.

To be successful in the field of early warning and early action, working in fragile contexts, youth livelihoods and / or (market) systems change. Strong analytical and conceptual skills are essential to the ability to think and plan strategically. As well as being educated to BSc / BA or FSL, you will have :

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation and management of FSL programs in an international development context, ideally in West and Central Africa ;
  • Good resilience, cash transfer programming, gender-sensitive livelihoods, VSLAs and IGAs ;
  • Knowledge of institutional donors and a proven track record in developing funding and reporting ;
  • Proven experience of developing effective working relationships with senior stakeholders from government agencies, international organizations, donors, academics and opinion leaders, including successful advocacy and influencing ;
  • Familiarity with various analytical tools related to FSL, such as for example the Household Economy Analysis approach and the Harmonized Framework / Integrated Phase Classification (IPC)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English ;
  • Ability to travel within the region and globally up to 30%.
