Internationally Mobile with 75- 80% travel required :

Do you want to play a key role in an organisation which stands up for children? Then join us as EHU Nurse, managing the daily nursing activities of one of the mobile teams. This will involve either support to emergency primary health care, acute watery diarrhea or mass vaccination.

In our Humanitarian department, we fight for children every single day. We integrate emergency and development work, through our country programmes. We increase our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. We go the extra mile – and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As EHU Nurse, you will be regularly deployed to humanitarian emergencies and as such expected to support the set up and daily operations related to emergency health programmes. In addition you will work with the clinical lead to develop nursing standard operation procedures for the programme, supporting emergency preparedness activities in the East and Southern Africa region and on deployment take responsibility for nursing activities with the response. In addition you will :

  • Become familiar with the overall content and function of module, primary health care, immunization and acute watery diarrhoea management and its deployment ;
  • Together with the clinical lead develop Standards Operations Procedures (SOPs) for required nursing activities and community outreach activities related to primary health care mobile services, immunization and management of acute watery diarrhea ;
  • Assist in the recruitment and management of outreach health promotion teams with the WASH team ;
  • assist in providing weekly drug consumption and vaccination reports in time ;
  • Review and facilitate all referrals of patients following agreed referral protocols and ensure all referrals are documented and reported and where possible followed up.

To be successful you will be registered Nurse, qualified from recognised centre with experience in primary health care, general practice and media nursing. As well as strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English you will also have experience working in insecure environments. In addition you will have :

  • Experience in dispensing and vaccination ;
  • Strong experience, of humanitarian healthcare with experience of setting up large scale emergency health programmes from scratch ;
  • Experience of working in a district hospital overseas working on management and clinical care ;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) ;
  • The ability to work in and maintain a positive team dynamic in insecure environment.
