The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, services, and education and training at the local, national and international level. Over 800 people from more than 70 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.

The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of Swiss TPH provides policy advice, project design and management in the area of national and global health with the aim to strengthen health systems and improve health service delivery. The System Performance and Monitoring Unit is currently looking for

 

Health care waste disposal and management expert :

As short term consultant :

Our work is integrated in a multidisciplinary team with the aim to monitor performance and strengthen health systems in international settingsWithin our various short and long term mandates, we aim at identifying a pool of consultantsin health care waste disposal and management to complete the expertise of our teams with experience especially in low and middle income countries (LMICs).

You should have the following experiences and skills in:

  • Sc. environment engineering or equivalent university degree in sanitation (solid and liquid waste) management, engineering, policy, public administration, or another relevant field such as biological or biochemical sciences, chemical and physical sciences, civil/structural/ environmental engineering, environmental science ;
  • At least 10 years of substantive and increasingly responsible experience in waste management and hazardous waste remediation ;
  • At least 10 years of extensive experience in health care waste management sphere from assessment of treatment technologies to development and implementation of waste management programs at national level ;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a developing country and/or resource poor settings ;
  • Proven expertise in evaluations (quantitative and qualitative) methods, operations research, vaccines management, health products management, hospital management, data analysis and presentation, evaluation ;
  • Solid analytical, problem solving, writing and reporting skills together with excellent spoken communication skills essential
  • Evidence of good understanding of cost effectiveness analysis is an asset ;
  • Experience working with international teams and dealing in a culturally appropriate manner with a range of stakeholders, from high level government officials to community members ;
  • Experience with international agencies or working with not-for-profit sector is an asset ;
  • Excellent command of English AND French (speaking & writing) required, another language (Spanish or Portuguese) is a strong asset ;
  • Ability to work under pressure and with teams ;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills essential .
