Duty Station: Multiple Duty Station ( Yangon, Maungdaw, Kayin, Northern Shan and Kachin State)

The consultant will be based in Maungdaw for the first four months of the project, and split their time between Yangon and priority UNFPA sites in Kayin, northern Shan and Kachin State for the remaining two months.

Duration: 6 Months (extendable to 11 months,  upon satisfactory performance)

Position Summary:

The purpose of the International MHPSS Specialist consultancy is to assist the Myanmar Country office in supporting the implementation of MHPSS interventions through multi sectoral Gender based violence (GBV) response and prevention services supported by UNFPA with a particular focus on the immediate requirements in the northern part of Rakhine state.

The International MHPSS Specialist will support the Myanmar Country office to undertake a range of activities to ensure that the outcomes of the consultancy will increase the capacity of organisations implementing programmes in the areas of UNFPA GBV interventions to support compliance with IASC Guidelines for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings. These activities would include the following:

1. Increase capacity of existing MHPSS interventions which are currently being implemented by UNFPA implementing partners under the Women and Girls First initiative in Kachin, northern Shan state, Rakhine and Kayin.

2. Lead the design of MHPSS interventions for international and national organisations in northern Rakhine state within existing programmes

3. Manage the design of training material on psychosocial first aid and other MHPSS interventions to support best practices.

4. Lead and facilitate training on PFA and other MHPSS interventions particularly to support GBV response and prevention programmes for health, non health and community mobilisers

5. Design and develop IEC material to support the implementing of MHPSS interventions.

6. Supervise the development of field manuals for organisations working in particular regions to ensure access to guidance when required.

7. Development of monitoring tools to ensure MHPSS interventions are in compliance with international guidelines and best practices.

8. Manage the development of a peer support network and the structures to ensure its continued sustainability.

9. Engage and support emerging MHPSS coordination mechanisms in Yangon to support international best practice across

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education

• Advanced degree with specialization in areas such as clinical psychology, clinical social work or mental health. It is desirable to possess a Masters in Public Health.
Professional Experience
• At least 5 years of specialized experience in community based psychosocial support interventions particularly as it relates to GBV, and experience in this field at international level in a humanitarian context.
• Demonstrated knowledge of IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency Settings
• Demonstrated  experience on Counseling skills and clinical supervision of lay counsellors
• Demonstrated knowledge of reproductive health issues and/or protection issues in humanitarian settings, and of humanitarian emergency operations and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors.
• Proficiency in English and in other official languages or the UN required/desirable.
• Strong Training and supervision experience required
