UNICEF is looking for International Consultant : Climate Change Risk Analysis and Impact Study for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Burkina Faso

How can you make a difference?

The SDG 6 aims to achieve universal coverage of drinking water (target 6.1) and sanitation (target 6.2) by 2030. Additionally, it also aims to improve water quality (6.3), improve water-use efficiency (6.4), implement integrated water resources management (IWRM) (6.5), and restore water ecosystems (6.6). These goals are inseparably linked to climate change impacts. UNICEF globally has deliberately positioned addressing climate change as one of the major priorities in its Strategic Plan 2018-2021. At the country level, UNICEF Burkina Faso has allocated financial resources around WASH and climate change in its CPD 2018-2020. Considering the climate change vulnerability of the country, UNICEF recognizes the need to increase evidence generation and knowledge around climate change and the WASH nexus in Burkina Faso for climate responsive, resilient and sustainable WASH programming. Furthermore, the findings from the impact study will also contribute to the next CPD development for all UNICEF’s program priority areas in Burkina Faso.

The lead researcher will be responsible for recruiting and managing a team of researchers who will support the different steps of the study mentioned above. The structure of the research team should be explained in a technical proposal.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

Advanced degree in relevant field such as environmental sciences, public health/sanitation/ environmental engineering or a field relevant to international WASH programming and climate change.

Strong experience of conducting studies on WASH/ environment/ climate change risk assessment and impact evaluation.

A sound background in research and publication.

Prior experience in West African countries is an asset.

Demonstrated knowledge on UNICEF’s program priority areas like WASH, nutrition, health, child protection, social policy, education, gender, HIV/AIDS, etc. is an asset
