How can you make a difference?

 

Objectives :

The overall objective of this consultancy is to establish a standby arrangement with 2 English writers/editors to be available at short notice to assist with the writing and editing of documents in English – with a focus on improving overall structure, clarity and style that conforms to the UNICEF Style Book.

 

Deliverables and Schedules :

The contract will specifically include the following services :

  1. Copy editing and copy writing of technical documents, notably draft Programme Strategy Notes (PSN) and draft Country Programme Documents (CPD) prepared by Country Offices ;
  2. Writing of documents based on reports, studies and notes provided by UNICEF, as well as components of draft PSNs and draft CPDs in support of Country Offices under the direction of WCARO
  3. Proof-reading, writing and editing original copy and content on UNICEF-related activities and programme, such as :
  • Draft PSNs and draft CPDs in support of Country Offices ;
  • Reports and publications, including annual corporate reports, brochures, meeting reports etc. ;
  • Strategies, plans, guidelines and case studies ;
  • Key messages, briefs, position papers.

Any/all of the aforementioned services may be requested in relation to the deliverables and schedule set out hereunder :

Copy editing, writing and proof-reading of documents related to :

  • Regional Office Annual Report ;
  • Country Office Annual Reports and summaries thereof ;
  • Regional Management Team meeting ;
  • Other technical documents.

Copy editing, writing and proof-reading of documents related to :

  • Programme Strategy Notes ;
  • Country Programme Documents ;
  • Deputy Representatives Operations, Programme and Zone Offices meeting ;
  • Other technical documents.

Copy editing, writing and proof-reading of documents related to :

  • Programme Strategy Notes ;
  • Country Programme Documents ;
  • Regional Management Team meeting ;
  • Other technical documents.

Copy editing, writing and proof-reading of documents related to :

  • Annual review ;
  • Country Office Annual Reports ;
  • Development of next Regional Office Management Plan ;
  • Other technical documents.

Copy editing, writing and proof-reading of documents related to :

  • Programme Strategy Notes ;
  • Regional Office Annual Report ;
  • Country Office Annual Reports and summaries thereof ;
  • Development of next Regional Office Management Plan ;
  • Other technical documents.

Copy editing, writing and proof-reading of documents related to :

  • Country Programme Documents ;
  • Regional Management Team meeting ;
  • Development of next Regional Office Management Plan ;
  • Other technical documents.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have :

The consultant’s profile should meet the following minimum requirements :

  • Completion of a Master degree (graduate level preferred, undergraduate level at least), in social sciences, law, humanities, public health, social work, public administration, or a related field. A university degree with 2 additional relevant work experience might be accepted in lieu of the Master ;
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Excellent written and spoken French is desirable but not critical ;
  • At least 8 years’ relevant work experience writing/editing professional and/or academic documents related to the above fields of advanced university study ;
  • Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of UNICEF and the United Nations, as well as the West and Central Africa region.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
