In Togo, UNICEF is investing in the creation of a nation worthy of children, girls and boys guided by the standards and principles embodied in the Convention on the Rights of the Child signed by Togo on August 1, 1990.

The Lome Office is committed to promoting and defending the Rights of Children and helping them realize their potential and change the country’s vision with children.

The position Finance Assistant is part of Operations component of the country programme and contributes to the achievement of key results for children.

The incumbent provides a variety of technical tasks in finance functions, ensuring accurate and timely delivery, in compliance with UNICEF financial rules and regulations, whilst demonstrating the capacity to research, adapt and evaluate irregular cases, and to recommend improvements to process delivery and design.

 

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Finance Officer, the selected candidate will undertake the following key assignments :

  1. Assistance in preparation of periodic accounting records by recording receipts and disbursements (ledgers, cash books, vouchers, etc) ;
  2. Compilation and verification of budgets and accounting data by researching files, calculating costs, and estimating anticipated expenditures from available information sources ;
  3. Maintaining contact with local banks for verifying account status, obtaining approval for cheque clearance, verifying currency exchange rates and similar direct transactions ;
  4. When authorized, making disbursements from petty cash funds, maintaining records of these disbursement and balance accounts as required ;
  5. Providing assistance to newly arriving or departing staff members with opening or closing bank account, exchanging currency and other financial matters ;
  6. Performing other duties as required.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education preferably supplemented by a first degree in the field of accounting/finance ;
  • Four (4) years general clerical experience in accounting and/or finance ;
  • Fluency in French is required. Knowledge of English and another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
