Purpose

To support effective resource mobilization, in particular through timely delivery of quality proposals and reports

 

Key function, accountabilities and related duties/tasks :

Under the supervision of the Donor Relations Specialist (P3), the consultant will be responsible for editing, fact-checking and some writing for the above-mentioned types of documents and reports and apply following strategies :

  • Support the review, editing, and finalization of over 60 reports due within this period. This includes working with the Reports Specialist in establishing reporting deadlines with different sections, monitoring compliance of implementation within UNICEF programmatic and technical obligations to the donor, and ensuring quality and timely submission to the donor ;
  • Lead the development of emergency proposals in collaboration with the Emergency Coordinator, Donor Relations Specialist, and relevant section focal points ;
  • With the Reports Specialist, develop and initiate capacity building initiatives in reporting and proposal development ;
  • Support knowledge management/archiving activities for reporting ;
  • Support contribution management initiatives, including project revision requests, extensions, etc., when necessary.

 

Key deliverables :

  • Timely submission of 100% reports in line with ECO quality standards and submitted on time to the donor during this period (consultant to be responsible for an estimated 20 emergency reports and an estimated 10-15 development reports-final figures TBD) ;
  • Lead and coordinate concept notes and proposal development, as required (an estimated 3-4 emergency proposals will be developed during this period).

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in development and/or social sciences or related technical field is required ;
  • A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree ;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively advanced work experience in international development, some of which should be in a developing country context ;
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset ;
  • Demonstrated experience in producing documents, proposals and reports for a resource partner, including UN agencies ;
  • Experience working in emergency contexts is an asset ;
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

 

Technical Competencies

  • Good understanding of UNICEF programming in Ethiopia ;
  • Previous experience with emergency proposal development and reports writing essential ;
  • Good ability to support translation of analytical findings and evidence into a cohesive narrative ;
  • Excellent oral and written communication and report writing skills in English. Writing samples may be requested ;
  • Excellent communication (written and oral), negotiation, and other human relations skills ;
  • Demonstrated capacity in M&E and budgeting for large-scale programs or emergency programming an asset ;
  • Excellent ability to collect, treat and analyze data. Advanced computer literacy expected in Word, Excel and Power Point.
