We work closely with the Government of Zimbabwe, with whom we have signed a Basic Cooperation Agreement, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), sister agencies of the United Nations, and the private sector to deliver much-needed assistance to children and women.

The current UNICEF-Government of Zimbabwe Country Programme of Cooperation (2016-2020) aims to support Zimbabwe to sustain and build upon the gains achieved for children during the 2012-2015 Country Programme of Cooperation. The programme focuses on improving the quality of social services, increasing access to services, and helping to build national and sub-national capacities to provide low-cost, high-impact interventions for all children, especially the most vulnerable.

 

How can you make a difference?

In Country Programme Document (CPD) 2016-2020, identification and promotion of innovations and Technology for Development (T4D) were identified as key priority areas. This was reinforced when the office carried out a skill mapping exercise as part of Mid Term Review (MTR) process where Technology for Development (T4D) was identified as one key area to support programme delivery.  The ICT Section will be leading Technology for Development (T4D) and Innovations functions in the country office in collaboration with programme Sections. Therefore, based on the established policies and guidelines, the purpose of the incumbent role is to lead Technology for Development (T4D) and innovations functions at the Zimbabwe country office, assisting program and operations Sections to deliver results for children.

Summary of the key functions and accountabilities include :

  1. Contribute to developing and implementing the T4D and innovations strategy ;
  2. Implement T4D and innovation initiatives for programme effectiveness and Operational efficiency and effectiveness ;
  3. Collaboration and build relationships ;
  4. Programme support ;
  5. Contract and Project management ;
  6. User support and training.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in information technology, software engineering, telecommunication engineering, electronic engineering, computer science or business administration is required ;
  • A minimum of two years of experience in implementing technological solutions is required ;
  • Experience in system design and software development preferably in open source platforms ;
  • Experience with ICT hardware, smart devices, mobile phones and web-based technologies available in Africa region, particularly designing or deploying tools appropriate to low-bandwidth or sub-standard infrastructure environments ;
  • Experience in mobile platforms and emerging technologies are highly desirable ;
  • Certification and/or proven experience in one of these several ICT technical competencies: Software Engineering and Programming, ICT Project Management, Business Analytics, Information Security, ICT Audit and Risk Management, Telecommunications ;
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
