United Nations Population Fund seeks to recruit a humanitarian specialist

Apply Before : March 31, 2019

Job description :

Grade : NO-C, National Professional Officer – Locally recruited position – Mid level

UNFPA :

The United Nations Population Fund is an international development agency that promotes the right of every woman, man and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity. UNFPA supports countries in using population data for policies and programmes to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free of HIV/AIDS, and every girl and woman is treated with dignity and respect. UNFPA’s new Strategic Plan (2018 – 2021) focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning ; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.

Somalia has seen a trend towards political stabilization since 2011, as Parliamentary elections were successfully held and a new President was elected. However, Somalia still struggles with fragmented and weak institutions, including poor health, statistical and legal systems in a context of protracted conflict in addition to natural disasters such as drought and floods. The UNFPA Country Programme for Somalia (2018 – 2020) integrates an approach that seeks to strengthen the resilience of communities and institutions and investing in disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness as a critical component to prevent and respond to the risks faced by the population, particularly women and youth.
