Background:

WCS in collaboration with the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife of the Republic of Cameroon, and the Ministry of the Environment and Fisheries of the Republic of Chad, under the coordination of the Commission of Forests of Central Africa (COMIFAC) has been charged with implementing the project ‘BSB Yamoussa’ thanks to funding from the financial cooperation of the Federal Republic of Germany (KfW). WCS is seeking a candidate for the position of Deputy Project Director, who will be based in Chad and responsible for the Chad sector of the project.

The transboundary protected area complex Binational Sena Oura – Bouba Ndjida (BSB Yamoussa), is made up of the Sena Oura National Park in Chad, Bouba Ndjida National Park in Cameroon, and peripheral areas (hunting zone around Bouba Ndjida NP, transition zone around Sena Oura NP).

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

  • The Deputy project Dirctor is particularly responsible for management and implementation of project activities planned in the Chad sector of the project which include Park management, infrastructure development, planning, anti-poaching, community based livelihoods.
  • The Deputy Project Director reports to the Project Director.
  • Represent WCS with Chad authorities, and work in close collaboration with relevant administrations both at local and national level.
  • He/she will participate in the planning and drafting of project activities including anti-poaching, anti-trafficking outreach and support to livelihood strategies and will oversee their implementation in the project area in Chad.
  • Technical reporting and overseeing financial management
  • Assist with the recruitment and management of project staff based in Chad

Qualification requirements:

  • Strong commitment to conservation
  • Masters degree or equivalent training and experience in conservation, natural resource management and protected area management.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven track record on protected area management in Africa
  • Fluent French language skills, both written and verbal, and high level of English preferred, German also helpful
  • Ability to thrive in multicultural living and working environment
  • Willingness to live and work in multicultural environment in isolated area
