Project Officer I – Nutrition
The position holder will work closely with the Project Coordinator to provide training on integrated Primary Health Care and other program activities. (TB, Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health, Nutrition etc.). He/she will be responsible for effective implementation, coordination and supervision of IYCF interventions with the aim of improving the nutritional status of identified vulnerable groups.
Main Responsibilities :
Ensure effective implementation and coordination of project :
- Ensure that IYCF/IYCF-E activates are implemented according to work plans ;
- Ensure IYCF/ IYCF-E guidelines are maintained in all MCH/OPD clinics and outreach stations ;
- Provide supervision of MCH staff using the MCH supervision checklist ;
- Ensure IYCF integration with all CMAM components ;
- Support the establishment of mother to mother support groups within the community.
To oversee community mobilization and sensitization on IYCF issues
- Provide IYCF counseling sessions to pregnant women ;
- Ensure that the District Health Boards and Village Health Committees are constituted, trained and are active ;
- Play an active advocacy role to promote proper IYCF practices, antenatal and post-natal checkups ;
- Represent WV Somalia in the various forums such as meetings with the government, INGO, LNGO and government.
Capacity building.
- Conduct training needs assessment for both nutrition staff and IYCF staff ;
- Participate in staff training to address capacity gaps identified ;
- Compile comprehensive training reports ;
- Ensure effective and efficient reporting of all IYCF activities.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- A holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition or a related study ;
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a nutrition or health program ;
- Should demonstrate good interpersonal and organization skills. Should have good communication skills and the ability to write well ;
- Technical training in nursing, midwifery or medical science will have added advantage ;
- Evidence of past training in IYCF will be preferred ;
- Demonstrates a good understanding and commitment to humanitarian standards eg SPHERE.
Working Environment / Conditions:
Office based with frequent travel to field locations.
