The objective of the Lead & Senior UX Designers is to reimagine the customer experience of Australia’s playful challenger airline, Virgin Australia.
You will be a member of a tight knit but growing experience design team, tasked with uplifting and in some instances re-imagining Virgin Australia’s digital customer experience across web and mobile app channels. As a Lead UX Designer, you will play a central role working with several digital squads, applying best practice UX design methodologies and solving for the end-to-end user experience, as well as leading and mentoring junior to mid-weight UX designers in the team.
From conducting quantitative and qualitative research, synthesis and ideation, facilitating collaborative design workshops and creating prototypes through to usability testing, iteration, UI design and delivery to developers – you will apply and be supported to adopt a lean UX approach as a way of working cross functionally with other designers, squad team members and broader organisational stakeholders and subject matter experts.

Key responsibilities :

  • Evaluate, plan and implement appropriate UX design methodologies and processes for any given brief, problem, opportunity or project work ;
  • Identify and advise Product Managers and Product Owners of opportunities and problems in current user experience using ;
    analytics, research & usability testing ;
  • Lead and conduct research, synthesis, ideation, usability testing and delivery using collaborative techniques where appropriate ;
  • Identify and apply advanced lean, design thinking and human centred design techniques to solve problems of varying complexity across guest journeys ;
  • Commission and conduct qualitative and quantitative research ;
  • Synthesise research and use to facilitate informed design activities and outcomes.

What we’re looking for :

You have deep experience conducting research and providing insights to use for ideation and to assist product owners in prioritisation and decision making, identifying and planning projects, roadmaps, and establishing a focus on customer outcomes over feature output to deliver digital experiences that we will be famous for. You may also have extensive UI capabilities and experience working with design systems. Bonus if you have experience contributing to or building a design system :
  • Experience pushing a design agenda in a corporate environment ;
  • Familiarity or openness to working with a Lean UX approach ;
  • Growth mindset with openness and commitment to continual improvement ;
  • Minimum 3 years experience leading design in a team or across multiple teams, preferably lean ;
  • More than 6 years experience in commercial design (e.g. ecommerce) on agency or client/corporate side ;
  • Understanding of the capabilities of HTML, CSS and modern front-end frameworks that relate to design (e.g. REACT) ;
  • Strong willingness to be part of a team, with a highly collaborative, engaging and positive mindset ;
  • Design thinking expertise and proficiency in usercentred design/creativity methodologies ;
  • Quantitative and qualitative research capability ;
  • Mastery in Sketch, XD, Figma or equivalent, Adobe Creative Suite and prototyping tools.
Since November, Virgin Australia has been working on a plan to set itself up for future success. The Group has worked to ramp up flying, simplified its organisational structure, confirmed plans for 25 new 737 aircraft to renew and grow the fleet, and signalled deeper investment in technology and customer experience.
Within digital ecommerce and distribution, a whole strategy and team capability is being built from the ground up, with a combination of BAU and blue-sky opportunities in the pipeline.
It could be described as a ‘business as usual foundation with a start-up heart and re-imagined playful streak that’s ready to delight our guests and customers once more.’ The team consists of several UX and Digital Designers working across several digital product squads.
This is an exciting time to join a growing team – we’d love to hear from experienced Senior/Lead UX Designers.

Application close : 26 Nov 2021 E. Australia Standard Time.
