What you’ll be doing :

The Aviation Health Specialist role is based at our Brisbane headquarters at Southbank. As part of this role you will be responsible for providing specialist clinical expertise and support to our passenger and employee health functions and projects. You will be a part of our Medical Systems team which is a specialist aviation and occupational health unit that supports the operations of the Virgin Australia Group.

 

Who we’re looking for :

A unique individual who is passionate about healthcare and primarily around caring for our passengers and our employee’s health and wellbeing. You will be reporting through to our Group Medical Officer and responsible for :

  • Working with the Cabin Crew training team to provide clinical expertise and support to aviation medicine and first aid training ;
  • Providing assistance for crew health and provide leadership with the Group Medical Officer on key medical projects for employee health ;
  • Overseeing passenger inflight medical events to support training and feedback to the business ;
  • Managing the internal and external aspects of onboard medical equipment including third party refurbishment of kits and contract management together with the Group Medical Officer ;
  • Management of onboard medical equipment, advice on any changes required to the daily use of kits etc ;
  • Medical escalation of MEDA clearance process, including training for PAD team members ;
  • Collaborating with the VA Group and third party providers regarding new inflight health initiatives to improve guest experience ;
  • Ensuring all team members complete mandatory training applicable to their roles (including, Safety, Security, Resilience and, Health and Wellbeing).

 

What you will need to be successful :

  • University qualification in nursing or allied health field ;
  • Maintenance of advanced clinical skills in first response training (ACLS or equivalent) ;
  • Sound clinical background to enable confidence in passenger health issues ;
  • Occupational (employee) health experience in industry setting would be desirable ;
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills ;
  • Ability to lead medical projects independently ;
  • Strong focus on customer service.
