OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The main objectives of the programme are:–> To ensure that every child and high-risk group is fully vaccinated with high quality and effective vaccines against the target diseases according to recommended strategies;–> To ensure that vaccine preventable diseases surveillance performances indicators are met at national and district levels.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. To support in EPI programme planning, monitoring and review with respect to surveillance and ensure implementation of the EPI work plan;2. To support EPI to increase immunization coverage for all targeted antigens by implementing appropriate strategies;3. To ensure that routine EPI data are collected from districts in accordance with the set timeliness and quality indicators, which should be done by closely working with the MOH/EPI including provision of feedback to the Districts and share with WHO/IST/ESA on recommended regular basis;4. To supervise in collaboration with MOH/RBC the collection of data from sentinel surveillance sites and laboratories including provision of feedback to the health institutions involved and share with WHO/IST/ESA on recommended regular basis;5. To analyze routine immunization and vaccine preventable diseases data on regular basis and support MOH to produce operational plan to address the gap;6. To provide the necessary support to EPI committees (polio committees, measles elimination verification committee, AEFI committee and NITAG committee) to fulfill their roles and responsibilities;7. To support with timely utilization and retirement with reports on EPI funds to counterparts;8. To support MOH to increase VPD surveillance performance indicators to enable country to achieve goals of VPD eradication, elimination and control;9. To provide technical support to the WCO and the MOH to document and disseminate experiences and best practices in EPI program implementation;10. To support MOH in the process of new vaccines introduction and elaboration of EPI communication strategic plan11.To perform any other duties as assigned by the WR or other duties related to EPI requested by the Ministry of Health and development partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Degree in medical field as well as Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field

Desirable:

Experience

Essential: At least 5 years of professional and related experience in EPI/or Child health Program

Desirable: Prior experience in establishment, implementation and monitoring of disease surveillance preferably for vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition, experience in working with UN agencies

Skills

1. Excellent knowledge and experience in disease surveillance and immunization programs;

2. Proven competence in program analysis, planning, training, and data analysis;

3. ability to communicate well in English and any relevant local language both verbally and orally;

4. strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain efficient working relationships with key partners and WHO colleagues; 5.proven ability to work for long periods in remote field sites often under difficult or unpleasant conditions

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at RWF 46,498,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
