Description

Save the Children’s Child Protection Global Theme is seeking;   An expert Consultant in Child Protection Systems, (CPS) to finalize Child Protection Systems Strengthening Guidance for Country Offices within our international programme.

The Global Theme supports the delivery of strategic direction and coherence to global thematic work on child protection.  A key deliverable for 2017-18 is guidance for our Country Office teams to establish and/or strengthen child protection systems in their country.   The guidance will support Save the Children’s programmatic interventions, help focus the work on certain priorities in systems strengthening and reflect our learning around contextualisation and sensitivity to local approaches of protecting children from violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect.  The guidance is in draft format (35 pages) and requires specialist input to complete, in specific areas.

 

Aim of the guidance document: 

To enable Country Office teams to determine where they can best influence and contribute to strengthening the child protection system in their context.  The target group for the Guidance; technical advisors and managers of child protection programmes within Save the Children, at country, regional and global levels, involved in strengthening child protection systems.

 

Deliverables :

  • A completed next draft of the guidance, agreed firstly with the Child Protection Global Theme and a small team of advisors.
  • A final draft, taking into account feedback received from Country Offices in the regions to be reviewed by the Sounding Board and signed off by the project team.

We aim to keep the guidance to a reasonable length, preferably, reducing it to 35 pages which means that it should be succinct but clear.

 

Timeframe:

Final guidance document to be completed by 30th November 2018. More detailed planning to be elaborated in collaboration with consultant.

 

Location: 

Home based.

 

Days required:

  • 10 days to revise and input into the current draft document, September 2018
  • 5 days to address comments and suggestions for improvement, following consultation with regions in which SC works, November 2018. Total; 15 days

 

Person Specification:

  • Academic and/or professional qualification (at postgraduate or equivalent level) in area relevant to child protection
  • Proven experience of international development and/or humanitarian programming
  • Proven thought leadership in child protection systems work in both development and humanitarian contexts
  • A strong understanding of the conceptual and practical aspects of child protection systems strengthening
  • Excellent editing and writing skills in English
  • Previous experience of writing guidance documents for field staff and programmes
  • Demonstrable ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Ability to respond in a timely and responsive manner to feedback received
  • A commitment to children’s rights and gender equality.
