If you are prepared to dedicate yourself to carrying out projects under sometimes difficult conditions and you match the requirements set out below, we look forward to receiving your application for the position of Expert for Civil Engineering (m/f) in Bangui

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of 6 months. There are good prospects for an extension. The place of work will be Bangui, Central African Republic. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required. The position is payed according to Salary Group 7.

The project’s overall objective is to contribute to the social and economic stabilisation of young people and thus reduce migration and crime. Overall, the aim is to achieve effects regarding (i) self-help mobilisation and strengthening of resilience, (ii) structural formation at the Ministry of Agriculture nationally and at the local level in the Federation of Vegetable Crops. A contribution will also be made to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

To this end, the following three outcomes are envisaged:

  • Young people find new perspectives and lose interest in joining armed gangs.
  • The very poor level of education and training is clearly improving in theory and practice.
  • Trained young people can earn a living on their own.

Your responsibilities

  • Carrying out all Country Office construction, rehabilitation activities, implementing technical measures and / or implementing social components within the framework of the specified project assignment
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of our infrastructure project activities in CAR
  • Supervise and monitor the technical implementation of reconstruction projects
  • Draft reports towards the donor together with Head of Projects and Head of Finance
  • Liaise with donor’s representatives in the country and possibly outside the Country
  • Liaise with partners and government representatives (if need be) in CAR
  • Organisation of the procurement process for construction services
  • Training and supervision of on-site engineers as well as guidance of national project personnel and sub-contractors
  • Preparing project visits by different stakeholders

Your profile

  • A university/university of applied sciences degree in civil engineering or a comparable specialised qualification
  • 3 to 5 years of project experience in civil engineering for international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region
  • Knowledge of a design software (AutoCad, Revit, etc.)
  • Ability to manage and work in a team
  • Good mental and physical resilience
  • Hands on community mobilization
  • Co-ordination and organisation skills even under heavy work pressure
  • A very good command of written and spoken French and English; German language skills are an asset
