Appel à candidature : Programme de bourses PhD de l’Agence Internationale de l’Energie Atomique (AIEA)
La Division pour l’Afrique de l’Agence Internationale de l’Energie Atomique (AIEA) lance le programme de bourses PhD Sandwich dans le cadre du projet régional RAF0052 : Soutenir le développement des ressources humaines en science et technologie nucléaires (AFRA). Dans le cadre de ce projet, l’AIEA prévoit d’accorder en 2019 au moins 10 bourses de PhD Sandwich à des étudiants / scientifiques de troisième cycle issus d’universités agréées du continent africain afin de poursuivre une partie de leurs programmes de doctorat dans une université étrangère. En tant que programme de bourses Sandwich, il est envisagé que les candidats sélectionnés passent une partie de leur programme d’études dans leur université d’origine et poursuivent leurs travaux de recherche doctorale dans une université étrangère pour une durée maximale ne dépassant pas 24 mois. La Division pour l’Afrique mettra en œuvre ce programme de bourses en alternance qui porte sur les domaines thématiques prioritaires régionaux suivants définis dans le cadre de coopération stratégique régional AFRA 2019-2023 :
- Alimentation et agriculture ;
- Santé humaine ;
- Sureté radiologique ;
- Gestion des ressources en eau.
Les candidatures doivent être introduites auprès de Dr Ynoussa MAIGA (Tel : 76 65 60 51), au rez-de-chaussée du Bâtiment Pédagogique à l’Université Ouaga I Pr Joseph KI-ZERBO, en vue d’une transmission au Secrétariat permanent à l’Energie Atomique (SP-EA) pour une présélection des candidats devant représenter le Burkina Faso. La date limite de réception est fixée au 20 Mars 2018 à 17h 00.

Under this project, IAEA plans to award in 2019 on a competitive basis at least 10 PhD Sandwich fellowships to postgraduate students/scientists from chartered universities in the African continent to pursue part of their PhD degree programmes in a foreign University. As a Sandwich fellowship programme, it is envisaged that the selected candidates will spend part of their study programme in their home university and pursue their PhD research work in a foreign university for a maximum duration not exceeding 24 months. The Division for Africa will implement this sandwich fellowship programme.
In this context, National Liaison Officers (NLOs), AFRA National Coordinators (AFRA NCs) and representatives/Vice-Chancellors of chartered universities in Member States are encouraged to work closely to select the best qualified candidates competitively and recommend them to the Division for Africa for consideration following the endorsement of AFRA National Coordinators.
The main goal of this Programme is to train PhD students to become leaders in priority fields related to nuclear science and technology. It is expected that the beneficiaries will be able to create new knowledge, critically analyse the accumulated ideas and take responsibility for the transformation and dissemination of this knowledge and skills by means of tuition in tertiary institutions, publications, and contribute to the implementation of projects and programmes.
The PhD Sandwich Fellowship Programme focuses on the following regional priority thematic areas defined in the AFRA Regional Strategic Cooperative Framework 2019-2023. These include : Food and Agriculture ; Human Health and Radiation Safety Water resources management
In view of the nomination of potential candidates for this PhD Sandwich programme, please refer to the Application Requirements included in the attached Prospectus. More specifically, the nominated candidates should be young professionals/scientists/researcher duly registered in a PhD programme in a chartered university in their home country and meet the following criteria :
1. Be 40 years of age maximum ; 2. Have completed a formal education to a level equivalent to a Master degree (MSc) for the PhD programme ; 3. Be registered and enrolled in a PhD programme in his/her home country university ; 4. Have a formal admission letter to conduct his/her PhD research work in a foreign University ; 5. Submit academic transcripts with the fellowship application ; 6. Have an excellent knowledge of English or French language depending on the candidate’s language of training – Language proficiency certificate should be submitted with the fellowship application ; 7. A letter of recommendation by the National Liaison Officer/AFRA National Coordinator for bonding purposes.
