Translating social sciences in East Africa (EASST) – Collaborative invites researchers from East Africa to apply for a scholarship for four months (sabbatical) at the University of California, Berkeley, to finish in autumn 2019 (September-December) and spring 2020 (January-May).

To be eligible, researchers must be residents of the East African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania). , Burundi, South Sudan and Uganda) and take a position as an employee or student at a research institute, university or another organization based in East Africa.

Candidates must hold a PhD or work on a PhD, except in case they are directly referred by a colleague EASST. Researchers quantitative social science disciplines are encouraged to apply.

The EASST fellowship seeks to provide the social scientists of the East African skills to conduct rigorous evaluations of economic development programs. Researchers will be based at the University of California, Berkeley for four months during the fall semester (August 20 to 20 décembre2019) or university spring semester (January 16 to 16 mai2020 approximately).

Eligibility

Applicants to the program must EASST:

  • be nationals of one of the East African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan and Uganda);
