Scholarship Description
Applications are invited for Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships at McGill University in Canada for the academic year 2018-19. Two Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded to promising young scholars in the Humanities.

The Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships aim to attract scholars from outside McGill.

Eligibility Criteria
Scholars who received their PhD after June 2015 or who will have completed all PhD degree requirements by June 1, 2018, is eligible to apply. While interdisciplinary applications are especially welcome, research projects must be based in the Humanities.  Applicants who do not have their PhD in hand at the time of application must include a letter from their Department Chair specifying the date of their dissertation defence. Successful applicants who do not complete all requirements for their PhD by June 1, 2018, will have their offer of award withdrawn.

Scholarship benefits

The fellowship includes an annual salary of $52,000 CAD and enrollment in the McGill University employee benefits program. In addition, there is an annual research allowance of $8,500 and up to $2,500 per year to invite a visiting speaker. Relocation expenses will be reimbursed up to $1,000. Fellows will be given consideration for teaching one course per year during their fellowship tenure, contingent upon availability. Fellows who teach will be paid an additional teaching salary of approximately $8,220 per course. Fellows are provided with office space by their host department.

 

Application Procedure

Applications must be submitted through Academic Jobs Online (AJO) by Monday, November 13, 2017.

The application must include:

  • A one-page statement of interest detailing the proposed research project;
  • A full curriculum vitae;
  • A copy of all university graduate transcripts. Please upload the transcripts yourself; McGill may request that official transcripts be sent at a later date;
  • A copy of your doctoral diploma, or a letter from your Department Chair specifying the date of your dissertation defense;
  • A writing sample, not to exceed 20 pages (an extract from your dissertation, a published work, or a draft of a work in progress);
  • Two letters of recommendation (to be uploaded to AJO by referees);
  • A letter of support from your proposed supervisor in the Faculty of Arts at McGill (uploaded to AJO by the supervisor); Please include your proposed McGill supervisor in your list of referees on AJO.
