The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Niger is looking at receiving expression of interest for the production of a multimedia documentary around the challenges faced by migrants on the corridor between Agadez and Libya.

Niger is a pivot country on migratory routes to North Africa and to Europe. In 2016 more than 6000 migrants on average per week (Nigeriens and West Africans) have travelled through Niger transiting by Agadez region (according to IOM flow monitoring). From Agadez, most migrants continue towards Dirkou to reach Libya then Europe, and some head towards Arlit to go to Algeria. The trip towards Libya represents hundreds of kilometers through the desert, and is organized by, often abusive, smugglers or traffickers, who request additional fees for the continuation of the trip. Once in Libya migrants often face more abusive treatment, including torture and kidnapping. The result is that many migrants, traumatized and stripped of all resources, abandon their plans to migrate to Europe. In the absence of possibilities for voluntary return many migrants thus remain stranded in Niger with no realistic options and exposed to a multitude of further risks, abandoned in the desert with no means to survive.

IOM is interested in documenting – through a multimedia documentary the stories the challenges faced by migrants on the route to Libya, by those returning from Libya and by those communities along the migratory route. The aim is to produce compelling, narrative driven stories that show how ‘migration’ happens in the Northern Corridor between Niger and Libya.

The expected outputs are:

· A film script: depth exploration of the story.

· A short film: 30-35 minutes with English Subtitle
