The British Council and Hivos support projects conducted in collaboration with platforms. Selected centers will receive project funding and mentoring for the development and presentation of projects.

Connect.hubs is  an initiative to support social and creative centers of South Africa that propels creative economies and creating social impact in the region.

Support for creative and social centers various communities of artists, entrepreneurs, activists and cultural producers in physical or virtual spaces. Examples are makerspaces, music studios, fablabs, groups, online networks, co-working spaces, incubators, and more.

The centers bring together their communities. Now we want to give centers the ability to connect and collaborate.

 

Advantages :

The British Council will award grants ranging from £ 2000 to £ 10 000 to 20 teams. Each team must consist of at least two different hubs. The team must work together to propose a collaborative project that stimulates the creative sector impacts and / or social. The selected projects will also receive information about the project development and pitching.

 

Preconditions :

Hubs working with social impact in communities in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Mauritius,  Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

How to apply :

Step 1 :

Enter your center :

Give details of your hub for inclusion in the public directory connect.hubs . Only directory poles will be eligible to submit a project for funding.

Deadline : 17h, standard time South Africa, Friday, December 14, 2018 –

2nd step :

More about other means :

On Friday, December 21, 2018, the connect.hubs directory will be made public. You can download the book in PDF format of this site. The directory will also be emailed to the hub of candidates.

The directory hubs will be invited   to join a private Facebook group and Slack chain. Videos Hubs be available on the YouTube channel connect.hubs.

Browse the directory and locate hubs with whom you want to collaborate.

Step 3

Hubs to connect with which you want to work :

In January 2019, South Electric hosting a series of video chats where you can meet other hubs virtually and start conversations.

You can also reach out independently to the hubs with which you want to work. Keep an eye on your inbox – someone may want to contact you!

Step 4

Come with project idea :

Once you started talking to other centers Find project ideas that you could achieve together. the possibilities are limitless. Some examples :

  1. Event space and a vlog platform collaborating on a series of projections ;
  2. A group of activists and a visual arts studio work together to create artistic posters for a walk ;
  3. An arts market and online mode. collective collaboration on seasonal virtual pop-up.

Make sure that your ideas are realistic. Grants range from £ 2000 to £ 10,000, and projects must be completed by 3 to 12 months.

We will share resources on the Facebook group and Slack channel on how to develop and enrich your project idea.

Step 5

Apply your project :

Submit a joint application with your pole collaborators for your team project.

Deadline of Thursday, January 31, 2019 to 17 hours –

Sept 6

Finalists announced :

Friday, February 8, 2019 – The selected projects will be announced.

Step 7

Development project :

Throughout February 2019, the finalists will receive feedback on the project.

Step 8

Go create together :

From April 2019  the selected projects will receive their funds and teams execute their plans. Projects must be completed by 3 to 12 months.

For unselected projects, we hope that you will continue the relationships and projects that you have established.
