Purpose of the internship :

This internship opportunity with UNICEF ICT section will help provide a mutually beneficial relationship between UNICEF and university students, young graduates, post-graduate students, or persons similarly situated (collectively referred to as Interns).

Under the overall guidance of the ICT Manager for UNICEF South Sudan the Intern provides daily support to the ICT team.

 

Key Duties and Tasks :

Under the supervision of the ICT Manager and in interaction with the ICT officers, the intern will :

  • Configure and install software on new computers and laptops on arrival including setting up hardware and installing and configuring software and drivers for the new laptops ;
  • Assist with installation, upgrade and release of organizational standard computer hardware and applications, communication, and office equipment relevant to the office. This includes roll-out of the Operating Systems, Office Productivity tools (e.g. MS Office), Electronic Mail, client access to UNICEF ERP and Performance Management Tools and Unified Communications tools (Video, Audio and Web Conferencing) ;
  • Help users to transfer their data from the old laptop to the new one ;
  • Respond to requests for technical assistance in person, via phone, chat, or email ;
  • Diagnose and resolve technical hardware and software issues ;
  • Keep record of the deployed ICT equipment’s and prepare/update summary of completed ICT property movement and share it with ICT officers and Admin Assistant (inventory) ;
  • Support equipment inventory and ICT Unit record-keeping and verify physical inventory of the ICT equipment’s within ICT office, datacentre, and store ;
  • Reorganize ICT store and ensure ICT store space is utilized effectively and kept clean and orderly ;
  • Liaise with other operations sections (finance -admin- supply) and follow up on the ICT requests ;
  • Perform other duties as tasked and deemed necessary for the overall delivery of the unit´s activities.

 

To qualify, you are :

Education :

  • Enrolled student in a master’s degree programme or have completed 4 years of full-time studies at a university in information and communications technology, information systems, computer science, information systems, cybernetics or related field ;
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate studies or have graduated with a university degree within two-years of graduation.  Have a good academic standing.

Experience : No experience is required.

Language : Good working knowledge of the English language is required.

 

Skills :

Suitable candidates will ideally have the following :

  • Knowledge on general computer repairs and hardware and software troubleshooting would be desirable ;
  • Familiarity with networking, telephony, tele/video conferencing, smartphone hardware and software (iOS, Android, etc.) and mobile phone service technologies ;
  • Knowledge of ICT behavioral competencies, good team player, positive attitude, flexible mind and comfortable working in multi-cultural settings ;
  • Able to work in a logical and systematic fashion ;
  • Demonstrate problem solving and troubleshooting skills ;
  • Exhibit a flexible, can-do attitude to problem solving using own initiative ;
  • Be reliable and motivated.

Conditions of Intern :

Expenses : Please note that Internships at UNICEF are unpaid. However, a small stipend will be available inclusive of transport cost.

Health/Medical insurance : the intern is required to hold valid health/accident insurance. UNICEF accepts no responsibilities for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship whether on or off UNICEF premises.

Employment : There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
